This has been one of the most fun and interesting “genres” to fill out with great new music as it gets released. Americana has a long history, but how is it evolving?
The music I put into this playlist I consider to be pushing the boundaries of folk and country rock, sometimes blended with a little New Age, and somehow 100% American.
The playlist was born after my band Bhakti Explosion recorded a song with the late David Newman, a waltzy Americana tune called Love Heals All Wounds. It was my suggestion, because the song had moved me so much when I heard him play it live, and I was shocked he hadn’t yet recorded it on an album. The version here is just the English verses, but if you’re a fan of mantra music, the full version with the Shri Ram Jai Ram chant is featured on the single.
