I first encountered The Parson Red Heads in the early 2000s when they played a local indie club in LA, and I bought their very first 4-song EP at the show. I remember the original keyboard player (the sister of the lead singer) talking about how their new stuff was heading in different directions musically. She was right to some degree, although the band’s signature heartful and thought provoking lyricism was totally evident right from the beginning in songs like “Punctual as Usual.” Since then I’ve been a steady fan of their personable, psychedelic folk rock. The musicality is really strong, and I’m surprised they aren’t more broadly known than they are. I’m pleased to have finally pulled together my favorite songs from their catalog, and to share with you!
I suggest shuffle play.
